With production about to begin on the still-officially-untitled G.I. Joe sequel, Walton Goggins has joined the cast. Variety has the news, saying that Goggins will play an original character named Warden Nigel James.
The film, to be directed by John Chu (Step Up 3D, Never Say Never), will continue the toy-inspired world depicted in 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra with a primarily new cast (except for the returning Channing Tatum as Duke, Ray Park as Snake Eyes and, likely, Byung Hun-lee as Storm Shadow). Newcomers include Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock, Elodie Yung as Jinx, DJ Cotrona as Flint, Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye, RZA as The Blind Master, Joseph Mazzello as Mouse and Ray Stevenson as Firefly. Bruce Willis is also said to be in negotiations for the part of Genreal Joe Colton, the original G.I. Joe.
Goggins is best known for his role on "The Shield" and for his continuing role on "Justified." He also recently appeared in Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens and will play a part in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln.
G.I. Joe 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on June 29, 2012.

[10.08.2011] Heat Vision meldet...
Bruce Willis in talks to join the cast of Paramount’s G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, with the veteran action actor marked to play the original Joe.
Willis, if a deal comes together, would play General Joe Colton, the man who in 1980s comic books starts the G.I. Joe strike team, called the ultimate freedom fighting force, and got the handle G.I. Joe.
Jon M. Chu is directing the Lorenzo di Bonaventura-produced action movie, which is bringing a mostly new cast to the franchise. Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson and RZA are among the recruits for the second film.
The movie begins shooting later this month in New Orleans. Paramount has staked out a June 29, 2012 release date. [...]

RZA and DJ Cotrona are likely for Paramount Pictures' upcoming Untitled G.I. Joe Sequel, according to a story at The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, to be directed by John Chu (Step Up 3D, Never Say Never), will continue the toy-inspired world depicted in 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra with a primarily new cast (except for the returning Channing Tatum as Duke and Ray Park as Snake Eyes). Newcomers include Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock and Elodie Yung as Jinx.
RZA, who next directs, writes and appears in The Man With The Iron Fists is expected to play a character called the Blind Master, who trained both Snake Eyes and Jinx. Though referenced in the animated "G.I. Joe" continuity, the character was never depicted in any form.
Cotrona, who previously appeared alongside Tatum in Dear John, will take on the role of Flint [...]

Casting continues on Paramount Pictures' untitled G.I. Joe sequel. Following a report earlier this week that Dwayne Johnson is likely to join the cast comes, via The Hollywood Reporter, word that Elodie Yung is likely as well.
Yung, a French actress best known for her role in District 13: Ultimatum, would play Jinx, a ninja that joins the Joes. The actress will also soon appear in David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
The entire cast of the original 2009 G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra is not slated to return, but Channing Tatum is expected to return as Duke, as is Ray Park in the role of Snake Eyes. [...]

[07.06.2011] Deadline meldet...
After seeing his stock rise from starring in Fast Five, Dwayne Johnson is in talks to join another sequel. I'm told Johnson is in discussions with Paramount to join G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes. That's the overhauled sequel that'll be directed by Jon M. Chu, who helmed Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Johnson's role is a character named Roadblock. I'm also hearing that Channing Tatum is a good bet to return. The picture has become an important one for Paramount, which will have to scratch the Star Trek sequel from its summer 2012 schedule and will likely put this film in its place. [...]

GI JOE 2 News Flash: The only characters to return in the JON CHU directed sequel will be SNAKE EYES, STORM SHADOW, and DUKE...

[26.02.2011] Wie Heat Vision meldet, scheint man einen Regisseur für das Sequel gefunden zu haben...
Jon Chu has proven he is a real American hero, snagging the gig to direct Paramount's sequel to G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Chu is now in negotiations to direct the project, currently known simply as G.I. Joe 2.
A slew of helmers were vying for the chance to step into the shoes vacated by Stephen Sommers and right the Joe ship, which was a hit commercially but a flop not only with critics but with fanboys.
As Heat Vision reported last week, Paramount's choice came down to Chu and F. Gary Gray, the man behind Law-Abiding Citizen. Chu's edge was being responsible for Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Paramount's hit documentary made for $13 million that has grossed over $53 million. Chu also worked quickly to recut the movie for a directors's "fan cut."
Sources say Paramount may find itself recasting major roles. While Channing Tatum is expected to return as Duke, it is unclear if Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whose dance card has filled out considerably since breaking out in Inception, will return as one of the villains. Insiders say Sienna Miller is also unlikely to return, with her Baroness role being recast or perhaps divided into a couple of new characters.
Joe 2 is a big move for WME-repped Chu, who before helming Bieber, made a series of dance movies. Joe 2 will now let him dance with bullets and action scenes.

The writing team from Zombieland is currently working on the script for GI Joe 2. Lee will head to the U.S. to begin shooting in June, with the film slated to open in the summer of 2012.

[06.01.2011] 24 Frames meldet...
Stephen Sommers was a divisive choice to direct "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra," the 2009 movie that became a global hit despite lukewarm reviews (and prompted Sommers to offer some, er, words of his own to critics).
Those who were on the fence about the filmmaker can unhook themselves: After reports this summer that Sommers would be returning to direct a planned sequel, it looks like he won't be doing that after all.
Two agents who represent other filmmakers have said they'd recently been approached about their clients coming on to helm the movie and were told that Sommers would not be getting behind the camera. Paramount declined to comment.
Sommers, best known for directing "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns," was the subject of whispers about problems on the set of the first film but seemed to put them to rest with the news that he would direct the sequel. The filmmaker has a "Tarzan" reboot in development but no movie that's ready to shoot imminently.
The 2009 "G.I. Joe," which starred Channing Tatum as soldier Duke Hauser and Dennis Quaid as team commander Gen. Hawk, tied up many loose ends but left some avenues open for a sequel. The project had heartened fans when Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick, the writers on hit "Zombieland," came on to pen a draft of the G.I. Joe sequel a year ago.

[04.08.2010] TheWrap meldet...
"G.I. Joe" director Stephen Sommers will return to direct Paramount's sequel, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.
There had been some doubts about whether Sommers would be brought back into the "Joe" fold, as there were conflicting reports across the blogosphere last summer that there had been some tension between Sommers and the studio, but the alleged bad blood appears to have been resolved.
Channing Tatum is expected to reprise his role as Capt. Duke Hauser in the sequel, which is still in development at Paramount.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Collider reported earlier this year that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick ("Zombieland") were hired to write the sequel, and I'm told that the studio is happy with the draft they turned in. [...]

[01.05.2010] MTV sprach mit dem Produzenten Lorenzo di Bonaventura...
MTV: Have Reese and Wernick delivered a script yet?
Lorenzo di Bonaventura:
We're not that far. I think it'll be pretty soon. It'll need a lot of work. They all do. I've had an occasion to read some of their pages, so I know the quality is there and the sense of tone is there. Paramount is very excited about us getting it going. No dates have been set. In our heads we think 2012 - that summer.
MTV: So then you'd start shooting when?
di Bonaventura:
We'd probably start next spring.
MTV: Are Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the rest of the main cast going to return?
di Bonaventura:
We haven't defined it yet. We're gonna keep that under wraps for the moment. They all did great and we liked them all. It's hard to manage as many characters as we tried. It would make life a little easier to have a few less. It'd be a hard decision to lose anybody, because they all did great.
MTV: One of the things that was really cool about the first one is that it was really global and took us to all these different locales. Is that globe-wide setting part of the plan for the sequel?
di Bonaventura:
Oh yes.
MTV: The first film showed us the genesis for many of the G.I. Joe uniforms, weapons and vehicles. Will the second movie show us items and vehicles that more closely resemble the toy line?
di Bonaventura:
You always want to evolve things forward. We're not just going to settle for the same weaponry or the same toys that we had before - I mean that more in a military sense than in a kid sense. I think 's part of the component of "G.I. Joe." are those advanced technologies - what can they do and how do they work? - and just some fun to the gizmos. It's part of that brand.
MTV: Has "G.I. Joe" comics writer Larry Hama been involved in the writing process at this point?
di Bonaventura:
Not yet. The decision is always how do you balance letting him have some objective distance and also at the same time getting his opinion? What we did on the first one is that we waited until we got the first draft and then had him read it and comment and we fixed what he didn't like. That's probably the same thing we'll do on this.
MTV: Have there been any conversations about doing the sequel in 3-D?
di Bonaventura:
No, I mean we're still working on getting the script. I'd definitely be open to it, but that's Paramount's decision. But myself and whoever the director is would have a big say in that. But at this point, we haven't gotten into that conversation.

The international box office remained testosterone-driven over the Aug. 14-16 weekend as Paramount's "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" stayed at No. 1 in its second frame. The pic grossed $26.1 million from 6,875 playdates in 49 territories for a foreign cume of $91.6 million -- nearly matching the domestic cume of $98.6 million.
Worldwide tally through Aug. 16 was $202.4 million.
If the filmmakers were concerned that the "G.I. Joe" would be too U.S.-centric, the pic's performance in its first 10 days eased those worries. Par says the film did well enough to launch a franchise. [...]

[13.08.2009] Heute startet "G.I. Joe: Geheimakte Cobra" in den deutschen Kinos... Und MTV fragte nach einem möglichen Sequel...
[...] "I would say that this movie is its own story, but the movie doesn't start with Destro in his mask; it doesn't start with Cobra Commander ruling everything, and it doesn't start where the established G.I. Joe lore starts," explained Stuart Beattie, the screenwriter of the first film. "It does set up all those things; it's the rise of cobra, so in that way, it could be thought of as a prequel. It's not the traditional Cobra vs. G.I. Joe that will certainly be in the second one."
"All of us have signed on to do future films," said Rachel Nichols, who brings the action figure Scarlett to full-size, bad-ass life in the movie. "And now we have to wait and see how this one performs. And if it performs to the level where we get to make another one, that's the best gift. Because that means a lot of people enjoyed it, and that's really what we made the film for."
The next question on every fanboy's lips is a simple one: Which characters in the enormous "Joe" universe will feature prominently in the sequel? First up are two beloved baddies that Beattie tried and failed to squeeze into "Rise of Cobra," but is determined to see on the screen: evil entrepreneurs Tomax and Xamot.
"I couldn't get them in there, and I really tried," Beattie revealed, saying he's a fan of the twin brothers who love fighting Joes as much as they do finishing each other's sentences. "Oh, God, I tried to get them."
In addition to the Crimson Guard leaders, Beattie told us that he also hopes to supplement Cobra Commander's forces with Zartan's evil biker gang. "I tried to get the Dreadnoks in there too," he said. "I also [wanted] Wild Bill and Shipwreck, but there were so many [people in my early drafts] that at a certain point, you don't want the movie to be three hours, and you can't service that many. As it is, I think [in 'Rise of Cobra'] I'm servicing about 14 or 15 characters.
"If we get to do two or three [movies]," Beattie said of his master plan, "we'll bring them in then."
Sienna Miller, who plays the evil Baroness in the film, has her sequel dreams set on a more selfish idea. "We're trying to push for Cobra Island, because we want to shoot the sequel on a beach," Miller said of herself and Nichols. "I could be the surfing Baroness. Actually, no. I should never have said that. Some people would love that."

[11.08.2009] LATimes.com meldet...
"G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" earned a studio-estimated $100 million around the globe on its opening weekend, marking Paramount's third successful big-budget action movie of the summer, albeit the smallest one.
The film came in about $10 million under the opening weekend of "Star Trek," which earned $75.2 million domestically and about $35 million overseas. "G.I. Joe" did better internationally, where it grossed a studio-estimated $44 million, despite not yet launching in several key markets, including Germany and Italy. It underperformed "Trek" in the U.S. and Canada, where it opened to $56.2 million.
That's certainly good enough for Paramount to claim victory, however, and start thinking about the future. The studio's vice chairman, Rob Moore, confirmed that a sequel will soon go into development. The film's lead actors are contractually obligated to return for another film, though director Stephen Sommers is not.
There is reason to be concerned about whether "G.I. Joe" will fade quickly at the box office. The film experienced a sizable 18% drop in domestic ticket sales from Friday to Saturday, indicating audience word of mouth may not be great, despite a solid rating of B+ from opening-day moviegoers, according to market research firm CinemaScore. "Star Trek" saw its ticket sales increase from Friday to Saturday and went on to more than triple its opening-weekend gross.
Such a fate looks unlikely for "G.I. Joe," particularly with "District 9" opening Friday and expected to perform well with males, who made up more than 60% of the audience for Paramount's film. Moore said that Paramount will aim marketing more at families going forward as a result, hoping to persuade more parents to take older children to the PG-13 film. Families made up a significant one-third of moviegoers this weekend. [...]
Despite the strong opening, Paramount still needs "G.I. Joe" to hold well on a worldwide basis, as it cost a hefty $175 million to produce and $150 million to market and distribute. Spyglass Entertainment covered 25% of the production budget. [...]

[05.08.2009] Bei FSR gibt es eine weitere recht positive Kritik (Grade: B)...
[...] In the end, G.I. Joe is simple spectacle. A movie that, while silly and in many ways over-the-top, can deliver an experience that is deliriously fun. And it is fun. Quick. Exciting. And fun. It sets you in a world that is cartoony and larger then life, propels you through one big chase and ultimately delivers the goods and the explosions. It is this kind of efficient, fun-natured storytelling that could make G.I. Joe one of the best action movies of the summer. That is, if you can look past all of that bad buzz and actually give it a chance.

[04.08.2009] Variety.com meldet...

[24.01.2009] EW.com meldet...
Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) tells EW that he did not insist that Sienna Miller's breasts be enhanced for his forthcoming action movie G.I. Joe. A widely circulated news story quotes the British actress (pictured, in G.I. Joe) as saying that, in the film, she wears, "a tight black leather outfit. And much bigger boobs.... They gave me these things that looked like chicken fillets. The director said, 'I'm gonna be honest, I like girls with big boobs,' and I don't have them so we made them bigger.... At least he's honest. But I was mildly offended." Sommers says he was aware of the story - we suppose you could say he kept abreast of the situation - but claims it is untrue. "Everybody here laughed because they know I would NEVER say that to an actress," says the filmmaker. "I guess the costume department gave her a tight fitting bra, but no one gave her rubber breasts or whatever. It is 100 percent Sienna Miller."
Sommers adds that G.I. Joe, which also stars Dennis Quaid and features a cameo from his Mummy star Brendan Fraser, was partly inspired by the Sean Connery-era James Bond movies. "I always loved the old Bonds," he says. "It's funny now how Bond wants to be Bourne. I loved Quantum of Solace, but it was like, man, this is a completely different movie to the Bonds I grew up with. In a very contemporary way, G.I. Joe is inspired by the memory of the kind of movies I saw when I was younger. I remember being in the theater for Thunderball and the big underwater battle at the end of that movie just blew my socks off. In G.I. Joe, there's an underwater battle under the polar icecap that's Thunderball times 10!"

There was a scene where the baroness comes home to France and we got to see the mansion, another scene where a member of GI Joe is captured by COBRA, Chris Eccleston and Arnold Voslo both look on form. Finally we saw a scene which involves a MASSIVE car chase and the eventually toppling of the Eiffel Tower. The film itself look like typical Steven Sommers schtik, massively enjoyable, Sienna Miller looks amazing but I do not think it will fare well with critics, action is very stylised from the scenes I saw, the character development is terrible, Marlon Wayans in particular looked bad!! [11.09.2008] MTV.com sprach mit Joseph Gordon-Levitt über seine Rolle als Cobra Commander und die Kostümierung...
[...] With a number of iconic costumes in his wardrobe, the look of the character has been first and foremost on the minds of fans. Gordon-Levitt confirmed to MTV News back in April that he does wear a mask, and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told us recently that it wouldn’t be the classic hood. But while we’ve been busy speculating over what’s covering his face, would you believe it’s what’s underneath that might be most surprising?
"The cool thing about my character was that it’s not that digital," exclaimed Gordon-Levitt, revealing that he underwent significant changes to adapt to the role. "I get to put hours of prosthetic makeup on and see a different creature altogether. I’ve seen how he looks and it’s really cool."
The transformation into a "creature" falls in line with di Bonaventura’s comments to MTV that the film will tell the origin of a "very twisted" Cobra Commander and that the figure’s gritty backstory will be shown in all its disturbing glory. In that interview, the producer also revealed that Gordon-Levitt will have his own take on the character’s famous high-pitched screech from the 80’s animated series. So what does the actor have to say about it?
"I love that voice [from the cartoon]," enthused Gordon-Levitt. "Chris Latta is a fantastic voiceover artist, but if you did that exact voice it would sound ridiculous in a live-action movie. I guess it’s half Chris Latta and half me."
The vocals won’t be the only thing inspired by the cartoon, but according to the star, the film is taking pains to carve out its own niche on the franchise. "Everything is different," he said. "I think it maintains the spirit of it and all the fun, but it brings the character into three dimensions. It wouldn’t look good if you did an exact replica of the cartoon. You wouldn’t want me wearing a skin-tight bright-blue dictator’s uniform. It would look silly." [...]

[...] got a chance to visit the set of Paramount Pictures' G.I. Joe on Monday where we watched Channing Tatum (Duke) and Sienna Miller (The Baroness) shoot an action scene complete with explosions and lots of water! Miller was stunning in her all-black tight leather costume and black hair, while Tatum looked rather fit in black slacks and a knit sweater.
[...] Lorenzo di Bonaventura gave us about a two-hour tour of the soundstages at Downey Studios in California, where the film was being shot.
The prolific producer, who couldn't have been more accommodating and courteous, showed us McCullen's underwater base station, the MARS lab, the interior of the G.I. Joe submarine and the remains of the Pit. He talked to us at length about the movie and we also got a chance to talk to Tatum, Miller and Park. [...]

[28.04.2008] AFP berichtet über einen Unfall bei den Dreharbeiten in Prag...
Seven people were injured Saturday in a collision between a bus and several cars during the filming of "G.I. Joe" in the centre of Prague, police and emergency services said.
Video seen on the private Nova television channel showed the bus, and then other vehicles, being hit by an all-wheel-drive vehicle that appeared to have braking problems.
"It happened in a closed area that was rented out to the filmmakers for the weekend," said Prague police spokeswoman Eva Brozova.
Jirina Ernestova, spokeswoman for the emergency services, said the injured were treated in hospitals in the Czech capital.
"According to my information, there were only slight injuries," said David Minowski from the local production house Stilling Films. [...]

I also learned that AN OFFER has been made to THE ROCK for the role of HECTOR DELGADO aka SHIPWRECK. At this time THE ROCK hasn’t said either yes or no, but the offer is out to him. Can THE ROCK smell what Shipwreck is cooking? We should find out soon enough. I knew it was only a matter of time before they would start offering Latino roles to THE ROCK who is Samoan. [...]

[25.03.2008] Access Hollywood meldet...
[...] "G.I Joe" is currently in production and set for a summer 2009 release, but fans are already getting a sneak peak at some of the action.
Paramount has released two photos of the fan-favorite character Snake Eyes, played by Ray Park, of Darth Maul "Star Wars" fame. Snake Eyes holds an impressive title according to "G.I. Joe" director Stephen Sommers.
"He's the world's greatest ninja, but he's also next-generation. He's not afraid to use a sword one second, and a split-second later he's pulling out his Glock," Sommers told USA Today. "His chief nemesis is arguably the world's other great ninja, Storm Shadow. The two grew up together, were blood brothers and now are mortal enemies."
Access Hollywood caught up with Channing Tatum while promoting the Iraq war drama "Stop-Loss." Channing, who plays G.I. Joe's leader, Duke, admitted he was apprehensive about stepping into another war film, but says "G.I. Joe" is not your typical combat filled movie.
"'G.I. Joe' is now a war film," Channing told Access. "I was afraid it was going to be a real war film, and actually it's nothing like that-- it's 'X-Men' with 'Mission Impossible.'"
As for "G.I. Joe" sticking with its comic book and cartoon roots, Channing couldn't agree more, saying, it’s a comic book "to the tenth degree."
Channing's co-stars, Dennis Quaid and Sienna Miller, are also pumped to dive into this summer blockbuster.
"'G.I. Joe" goes back to when I was a kid, and I thought it would be a lot of fun to be a part of this," Dennis Quaid, who will play Commander Hawk, told Access. "It's a huge popcorn action movie, and a little bit of a cartoon in a sense. The way it's going to be done... it's going to be really exciting."
Access wasn't only talking to the good guys. Sienna Miller, who will portray the diabolical lady of Cobra, The Baroness, revealed the lengths she's going to in order to nail her iconic character.
"[The film] requires a lot of physical training," Sienna told Access. "I have a black wig, guns, and leather... it's all very fantastic!"
Sienna admitted to Access that getting the part of the Baroness down took hard work, even a little homework.
"I've got a rubber gun at home that looks so real. I'm learning how to spin it. I've had it in my car while driving, and I'm terrified I might be pulled over because it looks like a proper gun," Sienna added.
Rounding out the all-American heroes cast is Rachel Nichols from "Alias," playing Scarlett (cross-bow included), Marlon Wayans as paratrooper Ripcord, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje from "Lost," as Heavy Duty, and Said Taghmaoui of "Vantage Point" fame as Breaker.
On the Cobra side of the fight, Byung-Hun Lee will play Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes ninja nemesis, Arnold Vosloo from "The Mummy" will play the chameleon-like Zartan, Christopher Eccleston will play the evil chromed-domed Destro, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt from "Stop-Loss" has been cast as the leader of the evil Corba army, Cobra Commander.
The film is reportedly an origins story. It could explain why Destro has a chromed head and why Snake Eyes doesn't speak, among other outlandish details of "G.I. Joe" that the cartoon never explained.
"For people who know nothing about it, it'll make sense," Sommers told USA Today. "And to people who love this stuff, it'll show where they all came from."
As for the famous "G.I. Joe" catch phrase --"Now I know, and knowing is half the battle" - which was used in the PSA's that followed the 1980's cartoons, popping up in the 2009 film, a rep from Paramount told Access, "You’ll have to wait and see!"

[19.02.2008] CS! sprach mit Dennis Quaid...
[...] Quaid admits he doesn't have a lot of action in the Paramount feature scheduled for the summer of '09. "Not so much for me in this one. Hopefully, there's going to be two more after this. I don't really have a lot to do here in the first one. I really signed up for the future as well."
He told us that he's already been scanned for his action figure and "it's anatomically correct, too," he joked, but he's not involved with the romances mentioned at the Hasbro presentation a couple days ago. "I have no romances, but my aide-de-camp is a Victoria's Secret supermodel, Carolina Kournikova, her name is Cover Girl, so it can't be too serious. It's a little bit like the cartoon show and it's a little bit like a modern action film, and it's also a little like James Bond old-style back in the '60s with Specter taking over an island for it's own criminal country and a threat to the entire world. It's somewhat tongue-in-cheek and great action and it just seems like a lot of fun. I just wanted to be a part of it." [...]
