Peter Jackson (u.a.

Ed Harris (u.a. "Abyss", "A History of Violence") sollte Commander Keyes verkörpern, Samuel L. Jackson (u.a.

The movie version of Halo has almost happened before -- Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp could tell you all about that -- but so far said project just hasn't panned out. Still, Frank O'Connor, the Master Chief of the Halo world, says the film will happen. Eventually.
O'Connor addressed the issue at the MI6 Conference in San Francisco last week during a session called "Extending Your Game Beyond the Package."
"We're going to make a movie when the time is right," he said. "We own the IP. If we want to make a movie, the scale of all the other stuff that we do changes dramatically. We make tens and tens of millions of dollars on ancillary stuff, toys, apparel, music and publishing. If we do a movie all of that will grow exponentially. We have some numbers if we do a movie, but it changes everything. It also changes our target and age demographic."
So there you have it. Not only is O'Connor certain that a Halo movie is going to happen at some point, but it makes absolute financial sense to do one too. [...]

[...] Halo Legends is a seven-story anthology - told across eight spectacular episodes - that explores the origin and historical events of the Halo universe and its intriguing characters. Halo Legends has been created in the same breakthrough format as The Animatrix and Batman Gotham Knight with each individual episode imagined by a cutting-edge, renowned Japanese anime director/animator, including Shinji Aramaki, Mamoru Oshii, Hideki Futamura, Tomoki Kyoda and Yasushi Muraki. The stories are inspired and produced by the creative minds of 343 Industries, including Halo franchise development director Frank O’Connor and managing editor Kevin Grace
The individual episodes fall within Halo’s 26th Century mythology as the battle between humanity and aliens rages on in an attempt to protect Earth and mankind’s expansive number of space colonies. The dramatic, action-packed stories feature characters and locales familiar to Halo fans, and episodes range in length between 10 and 17 minutes - resulting in nearly two hours of animated adventures. [13.08.2009] Kotaku meldet...
There was an enjoyable rumour posted over the weekend that a Mr. Steven Spielberg was currently in talks to produce the Halo movie. A movie Microsoft will only say is "on hold".
Responding to questions we had over the Spielberg rumour (and indeed the future of the movie itself), a Microsoft spokesperson told Kotaku:
We're glad there's still a lot of enthusiasm in the entertainment industry surrounding the idea of a Halo movie. That said, the Halo feature film remains on hold as we focus on projects like Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach.
Upon further questioning, Microsoft added that they had "nothing further to share with respect to plans regarding a Halo movie".
That's a long time holding, since the movie first went "on hold" all the way back in 2006. [...]

[08.08.2009] Wie IESB meldet, zeigt Steven Spielberg Interesse an der Verfilmung...
[...] Spielberg is blown away by writer Stuart Beattie's take on the game in his script entitled HALO THE FALL OF REACH. This coupled with the fact that his Dreamworks umbrella is looking for a big tent pole to help launch their newly independant studio with distribution over at Walt Disney Pictures after losing Transformers to Paramount in the separation, it's the perfect combination. [...]
Word is CAA, who rep both Spielberg and Beattie, is pushing these negotiations heavily.
HALO belongs to Microsoft and they own all rights to a feature film and happen to have a great relationship with the producer who even unveiled their lastest gaming technology Project Natal at the E3 Expo earlier this year. It doesn't hurt to have Bill Gates as a good friend so I hear.
Stuart Beattie, the writer behind the new concept that Spielberg loves, was quite busy during the 2007 writer's strike when he wrote the script on spec based on the storyline from Eric Nyland's prequel novel to HALO, THE FALL OF REACH. Beattie is also hot off the summer hit G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA which he co-wrote with director Stephen Sommers and others. During the promotional tour for that film, he told Scifi.com that the HALO story is, "an amazing story about this child that no one cares about and who cares for no one else, who kind of ends up saving all of humanity."

Q: [...] Is there still any hope for Halo?
Neill:
I think Halo is something that I was extremely fortunate to be involved with. To get a first film like that is a pretty astounding thing. Not only that, but also the creative world and universe of Halo is so appealing to me, from multiple different science fiction aspects. I was so invested in it, for those months that we worked on it. It's a very difficult thing to work on something and get into it like that, with that amount of creative intensity, and then just have the rug pulled out from underneath you.
Peter: It was a horrible experience.
Neill: So, I need some time to sit and look at whether Halo would be something that I'd want to go back to, personally.
Peter: What's happening with Halo, as far as I'm aware, is that the rights have expired and Microsoft got them back. They don't sit with any studio, at the moment. And, quite honestly, I think Microsoft are assessing what they want to do with Halo. It's their baby. They have a whole plan for future games, and I'm sure they'd like to do a movie, one day. As much as we had a terrible experience with the way that Halo ultimately fell over, I think Microsoft also shared that. They were very frustrated. It wasn't their fault and they were disillusioned, to some degree, by their experience. If any company could possibly make a film themselves and not have to deal with a studio, it's possibly Microsoft. So, I think they're assessing how they want to handle their relationship with the film industry. That's something they're figuring out, so we're not involved, at the moment. We just have to let them figure out what they want to do with the property they own. [...]

Remember back in February when Gearbox Software big boss Randy Pitchford teased his studio's next project as something "big"? Well, not just "big" but something that was "even bigger" than anything Gearbox is currently working on? Well, the kids at OXM sure remembered and they sent their spies deep undercover into Gearbox territory and came back with one heck of a rumor for their October issue: Gearbox is working on Halo 4 as a launch title for the next Xbox (NextBox?). [...]

[06.08.2008] Bei Latino Review gibt es Concept Art zur möglichen Verfilmung eines Drehbuchs von Stuart Beattie basierend auf dem Roman "Halo: Die Schlacht um Reach"...
[...] The HALO movie in it’s current incarnation, the one that we all know publicly about, the one involving FOX/UNIVERSAL, Peter Jackson, Neil Blomkamp, with the script by Garland and rewritten by DB Weiss...
...is completely dead in Hollywood. That project will never happen. Everybody involved has already moved on.
But, then we discovered and broke that screenwriter Stuart Beattie decided to do something about it. He started over fresh and wrote a spec script based on the best selling novel HALO: FALL OF REACH. [...]
Stuart Beattie’s script is very real and out there floating around in Hollywood folks. How real? Well, there has been concept art made by conceptual artist Kasra Farahani (WOLF MAN, HANCOCK, SPIDERMAN 3) for certain scenes of the new HALO: FALL OF REACH script as part of an eventual presentation to Microsoft. From what I’m told, the presentation is very cool!
There are some big time professionals in Hollywood who are also Halo fans that want to see the movie made. [...]

[06.11.2007] Variety.com meldet...
Sony Pictures will release Peter Jackson's upcoming sci-fi production, "District 9," which will be directed by Neill Blomkamp. [...]
While their plan to team on a bigscreen adaptation of the vidgame "Halo" is on hold, Jackson and Blomkamp are going forward this spring on the live-action sci-fier that will mark Blomkamp's feature directing debut. [...]

[06.10.2007] CS! meldet...
Creativity Online has posted a new interview with Neill Blomkamp who was set to the big screen Halo movie until everything went downhill last year. Here's a quote on the movie:
The film is entirely dead. In the configuration it was in. Whatever happens with that movie, assuming that movie gets made, will be a totally different configuration. It's not so much me as the entire vessel sank. Basically, it was a combination of; there were two studios involved that weren't getting along in the process of making it, Universal and Fox. That kind of stuff happens, it's a fragile industry. So the film collapsed at the end of last year, and it's been dead, ever since then. I'll be curious to see what happens. [...]

[19.06.2007] SciFi.com meldet...
Less than a year after its plans to co-produce with Universal a movie based on Halo, Microsoft's hit video-game franchise, fell apart, 20th Century Fox has signed a deal to become the primary licensor for Halo, Variety reported.
That means the studio will handle worldwide merchandise licensing for Halo on behalf of the tech giant.
Though the unsuccessful film development helped bring the two companies closer together, Fox's licensing division has a longer relationship with Microsoft. It handled similar duties for Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo: Elements of Power, two Microsoft-published games that came out in late 2005 in conjunction with the launch of the Xbox 360.
Fox is aiming to launch a broad array of products, from books to apparel to collectible merchandise, in conjunction with the release of Halo 3 in September.
Fox is already in various stages of discussion with several dozen licensees and will be talking to potential partners at this week's Toy Fair in New York.

[25.11.2006] Bei Halo Base gibt es die Übersetzung eines Gamespot-Interviews...
GS: [...]

[31.10.2006] Die Produktion wurde gestoppt !!! CS! meldet...
After Universal Pictures and 20th Century Fox backed out of co-financing the Halo movie, it was reported that prep work would continue at Jackson's Weta studios in New Zealand. But now, Jackson and Microsoft's WingNut Films has released the following statement saying that production has halted:
As was previously confirmed, we deeply regret that both Universal and Fox did not choose to move forward with financing the Halo film under the original terms of the agreement. At this time Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, along with their partner, Microsoft, have mutually agreed to postpone making a feature film based on the Halo video game universe until we can fulfill the promise we made to millions of Halo fans throughout the world that we would settle for no less than bringing a first class film to the big screen. We are fully supportive of Director Neill Blomkamp's vision of the film. Neill is a tremendously gifted filmmaker and his preliminary work on Halo is truly awe-inspiring. While it will undoubtedly take a little longer for Halo to reach the big screen, we are confident that the final feature film will be well worth the wait.
The script, originally written by Alex Garland and rewritten by D.B. Weiss, was to have gotten another rewrite by A History of Violence scribe Josh Olson. The movie was previously targeted for a summer 2008 release.
