"Iron Man" (2008) ist die Verfilmung der gleichnamigen Comic-Serie...
Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr., u.a. "Ally McBeal", "Gothika") hat es als Großindustrieller in der Rüstungsbranche zum Multimillionär gebracht. Alles verläuft in Starks Leben nach Plan, bis er während eines Waffen-Testlaufs entführt wird. Die einzige Chance zu entkommen, ist die Entwicklung einer hochtechnisierten und vielseitig einsetzbaren eisernen Rüstung, die ihn mit übermenschlichen Kräften und Fähigkeiten ausstattet. Sie ermöglicht Stark die Flucht. Zurück in seinem alten Leben, ist Stark alias "Iron Man" nun bereit, die Menschheit vor einer globalen Bedrohung zu retten...
Seine Sekretärin Virginia "Pepper" Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow, u.a. "Sieben", "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow") greift ihm dabei etwas unter die Arme... ;-)

Das Sequel "Iron Man 2" startete am 6. Mai 2010 in den deutschen Kinos... 2012 wird Iron Man auch einen Auftritt in "The Avengers"... Und "Iron Man 3" ist ebenfalls in Planung...

The opening marks the fifth-highest of all time domestically, surpassing Shrek the Third's $121.6 million and is the second-best opening ever for a film in May, trailing only Spider-Man 3's $151.1 million. On Friday, the Jon Favreau-directed sequel took in $52.3 million, which marks the seventh-best opening day, surpassing the $50 million earned by Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. Of the total, $10.2 million came from IMAX theaters, a new record for an IMAX 2D release, passing up the $8.5 million debut of Star Trek last year. The original Iron Man opened to $98.6 million domestically in 2008 and went on to earn $318.4 million in North America.
Internationally, Iron Man 2 added $57.2 million this weekend to take its overseas total to $194 million. The film has earned $327.6 million worldwide since it began rolling out on April 28th. The original Iron Man collected $266.7 million internationally and made $585.1 million worldwide.
Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Garry Shandling, John Slattery and Clark Gregg, the sequel cost between $170 million and $180 million to make. [...]

[...] Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios' Iron Man 2 opened to an estimated $52 million on Friday (including midnight showings) in a record 4,380 theaters, marking the seventh-best opening day ever. If the estimate holds, it surpassed Spider-Man 3's opening day of $51.3 million.
The top opening days of all time belong to The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($72.7 million) and The Dark Knight ($67.2 million). The Batman movie went on to set a new opening weekend of $158.4 million, a number Iron Man 2 won't be able to reach, but the Jon Favreau-directed sequel should still be able to enter the top five of the best domestic openers of all time. The original Iron Man debuted to $98.6 million in May of 2008.
Going into Friday, Iron Man 2 had earned about $139.5 million internationally, but that number should be significantly higher once Friday's overseas earnings are released.

[...] I get the feeling that the initial reaction to IRON MAN 2 will be that it isn't quite as good as the first film, but I think that will largely be because the first film came out of nowhere. Robert Downey Jnr's Tony Stark was such an unlikely hero, such an unusually charismatic figure, that everybody seemed jolted out of their seats. Everything that was good about the first film is here in the second, only now we're expecting it. In time, when the dust has settled and both films are equally canonised, I suspect the general consensus will be that they are of equal quality. And though the phrasing may be limp, the conclusion is not: IRON MAN 2 is up there with the best.

They're also listening in on all of this and wanting to get the pulse of where the audience is. But at some point, they want to introduce Mandarin into the storyline and my character, like Mandarin, was the leader of the Ten Rings. We're leaving it open because, partly, it makes good business sense for us to leave a little bit of uncertainty for people to speculate on.
Has Jon even thought about 'Iron Man 3' or is he just focused on the sequel?
He has known for a long time where he wants to take it and I don't want to speak for him, but my feeling is that the second movie didn't want to just follow a singular storyline. They wanted to expand the characters to show that it's not a linear saga like 'Lord of the Rings.' There's a linkage somewhere in there, but the big idea is to do at least one more 'Iron Man' movie and then go into 'The Avengers.' [...]
