[27.01.2012] ComicBook.com meldet...
Multiple sources have told ComicBook.com that shooting for Iron Man 3 will begin prior to The Avengers hitting theaters May 4th, weeks ahead of previously published dates. The film is scheduled to be shot in Wilmington, NC at the EUE/Screen Gems Studios and is believed to be the largest production ever to be filmed in North Carolina.
Previous reports have listed late May as the official production start date, but one source close to the North Carolina operations said that Marvel "will have staff in Wilmington as early as mid-March, with shooting scheduled to begin the last week of April or the first week of May."
Asked to verify the report, Marvel Studios said they do not officially comment on current or future development but indicated the reports were likely accurate. An e-mail update from that same Marvel Studios source told ComicBook.com, "It is not April for sure."
It’s unclear as yet whether this means the last week of April is a no-go or that it is the intended, but unconfirmed, date. It seems clear from these sources that things are moving faster and filming will commence earlier than expected, but the first week of May seems more likely than the last week of April. As far as Downey doing publicity for The Avengers, it’s still not clear which stars will be on-hand for initial shooting, but it would make sense that Marvel would want to have him on the set of one of their films (as opposed to filming somewhere else) to ensure that he is available for any Avengers publicity that they might want to do.
The Iron Man series, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, billionaire playboy turned superhero, has been a phenomenal success at the box office and with critics. The first two films have driven a combined $1.2 Billion at the box office. Those films paved the way for Marvel to develop other properties such as Captain America and Thor, both of which also fared well in theaters. Marvel’s ultimate superhero film this year is The Avengers, which features all of the previously mentioned characters, as well as The Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow. The Avengers hits theaters May 4th, which could well be one reason for Iron Man 3 to begin shooting earlier.
"Everyone knows that The Avengers film is the closest thing to a sure thing this summer," said another source. "People can’t stop talking about it, so it’s in Marvel’s best interest to pump up Downey and Iron Man while The Avengers is going full steam."
Getting some footage while The Avengers is in theaters would also allow Marvel to give exclusive footage to Entertainment Tonight or other entertainment media and double down on the free press it receives. [...]

[...] He is scheduled to meet with Robert Downey Jr. this week when he returns to L.A. Downey will be contributing to the story and Shane will be writing it in addition to directing.
The studio was not happy with the direction Iron Man 2 took. Iron Man 3 will not be another "two men in iron suits fighting each other" film. Instead, it will be more like a Tom Clancy-thriller, with Iron Man fighting real world villians.
Iron Man 3 will be made after The Avengers and will not feature any other heroes from the Marvel Universe. Marvel is only doing crossover characters to lead up to The Avengers, and once that film is released, the plan is to go back to self-containted single-character stories. [...]

[11.02.2011] THR meldet...
Shane Black is in contention to direct Iron Man 3 for Marvel Studios.
The writer/director has powwowed with Marvel execs about his take on the third installment in the blockbuster franchise. As of now he is being considered for the directing job, but the assumption is that if he gets the gig, he would also write a draft.
Insiders said that Black's involvement is far from a sure thing, and that other filmmakers were being looked at.
Marvel is keeping the story direction of Iron Man 3 -- which returns Robert Downey Jr. in the title role -- secret.
Disney, which owns Marvel, is scheduled to release the threequel on May 3, 2013.
The directing spot recently opened up when Jon Favreau, who directed the first two movies, announced he was departing the franchise.
Iron Man 3 would reteam Black and Downey, who worked together on the well-regarded Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which Black directed and co-wrote.
Black made his name writing high-profile specs in the 1980s and 1990s and, with movies such as Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout, was one of the top writers in the action genre.
Boarding Iron Man would prove that the vet filmmaker isn't too old for this s***, to borrow a line from one of his movies. Several weeks ago, Black was tapped to write Death Note, Warner Bros.'s adaptation of a manga, and is working on Doc Savage, Sony's action project based on the classic pulp hero. [...]

[23.01.2011] MTV sprach mit Don Cheadle über das "War Machine" Spin-Off...
[...] Last we heard from Cheadle, he dismissed the idea of a solo movie featuring Iron Man's gunmetal-gray counterpart. However, when speaking to MTV News during this year's Sundance Film Festival, he indicated that a "War Machine" solo movie was not only in the works, but the studio may already have a writer.
"They're developing it now, they're working on that," Cheadle told MTV News when asked about a "War Machine" movie. "I think they've hired a writer, so we'll see how it goes. It would be a lot of fun."
In town to promote his thriller "The Guard," Cheadle said he'd definitely be up for a solo movie featuring James "Rhodey" Rhodes, the character he took over in "Iron Man 2." (Rhodey was played by Terrence Howard in the first "Iron Man" movie.)
As for whether we'll see War Machine make a cameo in "The Avengers," the actor didn't expect to Rhodey to join the fight with Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, and the rest of Marvel's superhero team.
"I don't think he shows up in ['Avengers']," said Cheadle. "I think he's kind of a lone wolf."
The actor also commented on the exit of "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau, who announced his departure from the franchise back in December.
"People move on for various reasons, and Jon's very busy," he said. "He's going to do 'Cowboys And Aliens,' and he has a ton of other projects on his slate, so he's fine. I don't actually know what happened, I'm kind of out of that loop." [...]

[16.12.2010] Wie CS! meldet, wird Jon Favreau für "Iron Man 3" nicht als Regisseur zur Verfügung stehen...
Jon Favreau will not be returning to the Marvel Universe for a third Iron Man film, Vulture reports.
The article suggests that the choice was made at the director's discretion and that he informed Marvel Studios of his decision this morning. Though Favreau's reasoning is purely speculatory at this stage, it is likely that the director simply wishes to pursue other creative ventures. With the upcoming Cowboys & Aliens hitting next summer and The Magic Kingdom in the early planning stages, Favreau should remain suitably busy for the time being.
UPDATE: It's been confirmed that Favreau is not returning for the third movie. Favreau posted the following on his Twitter account: "It's true, I'm directing Magic Kingdom, not Iron Man 3. I've had a great run with Marvel and wish them the best."

[19.10.2010] Bei CS! gibt es folgende Pressemeldung...
The Walt Disney Studios, Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios announced they have reached an agreement under which Paramount will transfer its worldwide marketing and distribution rights to Disney for Marvel Studios' The Avengers and Iron Man 3. Paramount will remain the worldwide distributor of the upcoming films, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, as well as the previously released Iron Man and Iron Man 2.
Under terms of the new deal, Disney will pay Paramount $115 million for the transfer of the distribution rights to Iron Man 3 and The Avengers to be paid on the theatrical release dates. These monies will serve as a minimum guarantee against the distribution fees.
"In completing this agreement, Disney will now assume worldwide marketing and distribution of 'The Avengers' and 'Iron Man 3' and leverage these two highly-anticipated films across the multiple global platforms of The Walt Disney Company," said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. "We appreciate the tremendous momentum that Paramount established with these iconic Marvel characters and look forward to propelling the brand even further in the coming years." [...]
Disney is planning a May 3, 2013 release date for Iron Man 3.
