[24.03.2010] CS! meldet...
Earlier today, a rumor started circulating the internet that 20th Century Fox will release both The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Gulliver's Travels in 3D this December. ComingSoon.net has confirmed through our source that it is indeed the case - the studio will be adding a third dimension to those two holiday films.
The Michael Apted-directed third installment of the "Narnia" franchise is scheduled for a December 10 release [...]

[25.08.2009] CS! sprach mit dem Produzenten Mark Johnson über den 3. Teil...
[...] "Andrew Adamson, who wrote and directed the first two, is a producer on it with me and Michael Apted is directing," said Johnson. "It's a whole new franchise, I think it's really benefiting from it. It's a slightly different look. This one is different from the others, it's in that ['Seventh Voyage of Sinbad,' old Harryhausen films] league and they go from island to island having adventures. I'm very excited about it."
He added that "Adamson said something that was so smart early on. I had just re-read the book and he said, I don't want to make a film based on 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,' I want to make a movie based on my recollection of it. He took a 9-year-old boy's imagination. He saw things that are not even in the book. Lewis left, sometimes major battles, on a single page, so Adamson just re-imagined it." [...]

[28.02.2009] Variety.com meldet...
Michael Petroni has been tapped to write the next installment in "The Chronicles of Narnia" franchise.
Petroni will write "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" for Walden Media and Fox 2000. He will take over for Richard LaGravanese, who penned the most recent draft of the C.S. Lewis novel.
Move signals that Walden is moving full steam ahead on the third chapter in the franchise with its new Narnia studio partner, 20th Century Fox. In late December, the project seemed in doubt after Disney decided to pull the plug on co-financing the pic.
Walden is eyeing a summer start date for a holiday 2010 release through the Fox Walden label.
Petroni landed the "Narnia" gig based on his recent work for Fox 2000, including a rewrite of the Kevin Lima directing vehicle "Afterlife," an adaptation of Markus Zusak's novel "The Book Thief" and a rewrite of the Julia Roberts starrer "Daniel Isn't Talking."
Project also reteams Petroni with "Narnia" producer Mark Johnson. The scribe adapted the Australian novel "The Long Green Shore" for Johnson, Intermedia and Russell Crowe.

[29.01.2009] Wie CS! meldet, wird 20th Century Fox das Franchise fortführen...
Variety and The L.A. Times are reporting that 20th Century Fox has picked up the option to co-finance Walden Media's The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader just a month after Disney decided to pass on helping to finance the third film in the series. Budgeting and script issues are being worked out although there's hope that the film will start shooting at the end of summer for a planned holiday 2010 release through the Fox Walden label.
Fox and Walden will split the production and P&A costs for "Dawn Treader," which is projected to have a $140 million budget, down from the $215 million spent on last year's The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. "Caspian" grossed $419 million worldwide, compared to the $745 million earned by its predecessor "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe."
As planned, the third film will be directed by Michael Apted with Mark Johnson and original director Andrew Adamson co-producing. Ben Barnes, Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley will be returning as Prince Caspian, Edmund and Lucy while Will Poulter from Garth Jennings' Son of Rambow will play Eustace Clarence Scrubb. [...]

[26.12.2008] Wie THR.com meldet, steigt Disney aus... Einen 3. Teil wird es demnach entweder gar nicht oder bei einer anderen Produktionsfirma geben...
"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" will have to sail without Disney.
While declining to elaborate, Disney and Walden Media confirmed Tuesday that for budgetary and logistical reasons the Burbank-based studio is not exercising its option to co-produce and co-finance the next "Narnia" movie with Walden.
The third entry in the series, based on the classic books by C.S. Lewis, was in preproduction and set for a spring shoot for a planned May 2010 release. The development puts the participation of the talent attached in doubt. Michael Apted was on board to direct a script by Steven Knight. The key players of the second installment, "Prince Caspian" -- Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, William Moseley and Anna Popplewell -- were to return for the third film.
Walden has a strong relationship with the Lewis estate and will shop "Treader" in hopes of finding a new partner. The most likely candidate at this stage is Fox, which markets and distributes Walden fare under the Fox Walden banner.
Any partnership on a "Narnia" movie will require a substantial investment. "Caspian," which filmed in the Czech Republic, Mexico and New Zealand, cost $200 million. The first film, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," was shot mostly in New Zealand for $180 million.
It is rare for a studio to pull out of a planned trilogy in midstream, but the number-crunching showed a franchise on a downward trend. "Lion" roared to $292 million domestically and another $453 million internationally in 2005. This year, "Prince Caspian" grossed a healthy $141 million in North America and another $278 million internationally, but that was well off the "Lion" take.
Further challenging "Treader" may be a waning of the pricey children's fantasy genre. When the "Harry Potter" series topped the book charts and then filled movie theaters, studios began snapping up fantasy manuscripts as quickly as they could. When "The Lord of the Rings" showed it was possible for adults to enjoy the fare as well -- and produced the boxoffice results to prove it -- Hollywood's fascination with the genre intensified.
But no other fantasy adventure films have shown that kind of boxoffice punch. Earlier this year, Warners and New Line hoped they were launching a franchise with "The Golden Compass," but the adaptation of the Philip Pullman trilogy tanked domestically.
The film grossed just $70 million domestically and the co-production partners declined to go forward with a second installment despite the fact the film did take in more than $300 million overseas.

[15.11.2008] CS! meldet...
On Friday, Walden Media announced that Co-CEO and co-founder Cary Granat was exiting the company. One thing we noticed in the press release, however, was that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader has not yet gotten the green light:
Cary Granat, Co-CEO and co-founder of Walden Media, will transition from his Walden position to a consultant for the company effective December 1. Granat will be Walden's creative consultant on the third installment in "The Chronicles of Narnia" franchise - "Voyage of the Dawn Treader"- which the company hopes to greenlight soon. He will also provide consulting services for an initiative with AEG Live, the concert and promotion company owned by Phil Anschutz who also owns Walden.
"This was a mutual decision," said David Weil, CEO of Anschutz Film Group, Walden’s parent company. "Cary and we both felt this was the right way to formalize the change in the company's creative direction that will now be overseen by Michael Bostick who was brought in as Co-CEO of Walden earlier this year. We all owe Cary a great debt of gratitude for co-founding the company and guiding the Walden brand to its preeminent place in family entertainment today."
"I'm extremely proud of what we've accomplished in my seven years at Walden. We have been very fortunate, with the unparalleled support of Phil Anschutz, David Weil and the entire team here to create family entertainment that will last for generations. It's time for me to hit the recharge button and take on a new challenge, but I'll always look back fondly on my time at Walden."
Granat will not be replaced and his responsibilities at Walden will now be handled by Weil and Bostick. Granat expects to announce additional future plans shortly.
Disney was targeting a May 7, 2010 release date for the third installment.

Will Poulter, who has been cast as pain-in-the-butt Eustace Scrubb, the Pevensie children's cousin, in the next Narnia adventure to go before the cameras - The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader - which Michael Apted will direct.
Awful things happen to Eustace in this tale, but he learns. Will played Lee Carter, the scamp schoolboy in the film Son Of Rambow.
In fact, when I interviewed Will a few months ago I thought he'd be one holy terror, but he's a very likeable 14-year-old Londoner, and I was struck by his perfect manners.
In Voyage Of The Dawn Treader he'll join Ben Barnes, as Prince Caspian, and Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley, as Edmund and Lucy. Peter and Susan don't feature in this story - at least not in the one C.S Lewis wrote. [...]

[09.06.2008] THR.com berichtet über die Einspielergebnisse...
[...] Buoyed by No. 1 openings in eight territories, "Caspian" bounced up 12% from last weekend, recording $20.3 million from about 5,500 screens in 28 markets and hiking its international gross total past the $100 million mark to $102.2 million.
The biggest of the debuts was Australia, where the tally was $3.8 million from 265 sites for a lusty $14,340 per-screen average. "Caspian's" China bow provided $3.2 million from 500 screens, 40% more than the comparable gross in the market for 2005's "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."
"Caspian," which so far has not played in major European markets, has rolled up a worldwide total of $227 million. [..]
