Abwarten...

CS! meldet...
While it's quite a ways from a solid confirmation of the plot to Ghostbusters 3, John Hodgman's comments on this week's The Best Show on WFMU are just a bit too on-the-nose to ignore. io9 took notice of the "hypothetical" scenario that the actor posed on the air, which syncs up suspciously well to what has already been revealed about the storyline of the pending sequel.
"If you were hypothetically offered a role in 'Ghostbusters 3'," Hodgman posited, "... would you take the role? Let's say you're sort of the dissolute son of Egon, the Harold Ramis character, and you're kind of like John Candy in 'Splash'. You're kind of a mess. But it turns out that you're a natural ghost whisperer. A natural psychic. But here's the thing: Bill Murray's not going to be in this movie and will probably not be happy that you are. But you get to be in a major role in a major movie and in one of the greatest franchises of all time. Would you do it?"
Hodgman's comments match previous reports that the film would feature children of the original Ghostbusters characters (although that story only stated that Sigourney Weaver's character's son, Oscar, would appear). It also backs up Dan Aykroyd's recent comments that the film will move forward without Murray if he fails to commit.
Whatever the case may be, current statements from Aykroyd target a start date of early next year. Whether that means that we'll be seeing Hodgman or anyone else joining the cast should be revealed soon.
UPDATE: Hodgman has indicated on his Twitter feed that he will not appear in Ghostbusters 3 and that the suggestion that he still might was in jest. It remains unclear whether or not the hypothetical plot details he mentioned are entirely that.

CS! zitiert Dan Aykroyd...
After years of rumors, it appears that Ghostbuster 3 is finally moving forward and will likely do so with or without Bill Murray's involvement. Dan Aykroyd appeared on The Dennis Miller Show to discuss the project, dropping specific details about the sequel, hinting that the plan is to film in Spring of 2012 no matter what happens casting-wise.
"Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray," he says, "That is our hope. We have an excellent script. What we have to remember is that 'Ghostbusters' is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and Sigourney [Weaver]. The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of 'Ghostbusters 3' is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood."
The comedian also confirmed reports that the plot will revolve around a new generation of Ghostbusters and hinted at the states of his and Ramis' characters.
"My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the cadillac," he says, "He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs... Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that's the promise. We're gonna hand it to a new generation."
As for who might be cast as the new characters, Aykroyd says that, while no decision has been made, he does have a fondness for one piece of prospective casting.
"I like this guy Matthew Gray Gubler from the 'Criminal Minds' show," he adds, "But there's going to be a casting. We're going to see everyone that wants to do it. We're going to need... three guys and a young woman." [...]

[...] "I don't know anything about that," he said about the long-delayed, long-rumored third "Ghostbusters" film. "I hear the same way you did. No joke, my friend called me and said, 'Dude, it says you're in Ghostbusters 3?' I'm like, 'I am?' I went online and saw it, [and thoght] 'Thats great.' So yeah, I know nothing." [...]

CS! sprach mit Ivan Reitman... ComingSoon.net: So, you know we have to ask you what's going on with "Ghostbusters 3," right?
Ivan Reitman: [laughs] We have a really good script, but Bill (Murray) has to read it. He hasn't read it. There has been all kinds of chatter online about him reading it and not liking it. He has not read a thing. He's never read anything. And I just sent it to him. So we'll see. God knows how long that will take. But we'll see.
CS: There have been a ton of stories online. Lots of back and forth...
Reitman: There is almost nothing that is accurate online about that film. Will you write that for me?
CS: I will!
Reitman: There is nothing... I mean, all these stories... there has been a ton of stuff about casting, about who's in... none of it is true.
CS: The whole Sigourney Weaver thing about her son taking over and Bill Murray coming back as a ghost...
Reitman: Oh, no, yeah... I mean, Sigourney Weaver has a role in this movie. All the original characters have parts. As well as a whole bunch of new characters... it's got a really good story, this one. Maybe the best of the whole series. I hope we get to do it.

MovieMikes.com sprach mit Ernie Hudson... AL: Working with Bill Murray, you must have some interesting behind the scene stories?
EH: Bills a great guy, he’s kind of quirky but I love him. He’s a guy who is very much into what he’s feeling. I know he really cares about his work, which is probably why there hasn’t been another "Ghostbusters" as of yet.
AL: Rumors are "Ghostbusters 3" is in the beginning stages?
EH: Dan and Harold are working on the script. If it happens we will see but Bill has been the hold up. His definition of good is a little bit different than everybody elses. So we will see, I would love to see it happen. I know the fans have been asking for it…so hopefully. [...]

[...] According to a Sony casting call that went out in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles, Anna Faris is already listed as being the first new cast member on board in addition to the original line-up from the first two films. The Australian movie site What’s Playing followed this up with a report from another industry source indicating that both Will Forte and Bill Hader have been mentioned as possibilities for younger Ghostbuster roles. But is there actually any truth to this?
Anna Faris seems likely, especially since The House Bunny did so well for Sony, and she clearly has established herself as a comedic actress who can draw. However, the failure of MacGruber at the box office might make Sony think twice about hanging a major franchise on Will Forte. Although this film will have a built-in audience based on the name and the original cast, they want the option to carry on the franchise with the younger generation afterward. Bill Hader does seem a little more likely, especially since he and Anna Faris both voiced Sony’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs together. [...]

STYD sprach mit Sigourney Weaver... Q: Has there been any talk of your involvement in "Ghostbusters 3"?
Weaver: Yes, I got a call from Ivan Reitman. I think everyone who's involved would love to get together again. I think everyone's working on really trying to create a wonderful original story. I just said, "That would be fun and please make sure my little son Oscar grows up to be a Ghostbuster." And he said, "Absolutely." Then I think he directed this other film and is busy editing it, so it kind of got put on hold. But I would be surprised if we didn't do it. [...]

Vanity Fair sprach kürzlich mit Dan Aykroyd, u.a. über Teil 3.... [...] Speaking of your film career, last month in GQ Bill Murray said something that wasn’t so nice about Ghostbusters 3.
He was talking about the writers from Year One, and I think he was reacting to the box-office success and the general public view of the film, which in my view was a very serviceable comedy, and in the end I think they’ll make their money back. I think he was concerned that the writing on Ghostbusters 3 by these guys would not be up to standard, but I can tell you firsthand, I’m working on the script now and those two - Stupnitsky and Eisenberg, [writer-producers of The Office] - wrote Bill the comic role of a lifetime, and the new Ghostbusters and the old are all well represented in it... we have a strong first draft that Harold [Ramis] and I will take back, and I’m very excited about working on it.
Bill and Ted 3. Heathers 2. True Lies 2. Really?
Look, Hollywood is in love with any kind of nostalgia that can prove itself to be commercial. But it has to evolve. Now [in Ghostbusters 3] my character’s eyesight is shot, I got a bad knee, a bad hip - I can’t drive that caddy anymore or lift that Psychotron Accelerator anymore, it’s too heavy. We need young legs, new minds - new Ghostbusters; so I’m in essence passing the torch to the new regime, and you know what? That’s totally okay with me.

[...] When asked to clarify whether making the movie really would be a "nightmare," Bill Murray told us this: "Well, it's true, but we made a great movie and then we made another one, you know? So we went to the well twice and it's almost impossible to do the second movie as well. Only horror movies get better as they go along because they have more money to spend for more crazy effects. I actually thought the other day--it's just become so irritating--but I actually heard people like, young people that really [heard] of the movie when they were kids and I thought, 'You know, maybe I should just do it. Maybe it'd be fun to do.' Because the guys are funny and I miss [Rick] Moranis and Annie [Potts] and Danny. Those people are some people that were really, you know, I miss them. I think that's really a big part of it." [...]

;-) [...] Columbia's plan to reboot Ghostbusters is being haunted by a Mike Ovitz-orchestrated deal made in the early eighties on behalf of the series' original director-producer, Ivan Reitman. The studio's strategy is to revitalize the franchise for next year by having the original 'busters train a dramatically younger crew in Ghostbusters III, while a correspondingly younger director handles things behind the camera. However, Reitman's old contract - made at the height of his and Ovitz's powers - still gives him exceptional creative control over the series, including director approval. "Those deals were made in the eighties," explains one insider. "So his rights in this circumstance have a great deal of teeth." Therefore, while it’s true that Reitman can’t force Columbia to make Ghostbusters III with him, he can make it nearly impossible for the studio to make the film without him. [...]

Heeb sprach mit Harold Ramis, u.a. über Teil 3.... [...] Here comes the Ghostbusters question: What’s up with part three?
Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future ... Capone von AICN sprach mit Harold Ramis.... Capone: [...] Speaking of writing with other people, your cowriters on this film obviously have a script--that other people are talking about as well--for GHOSTBUSTERS III. Where is that now? Do you know about where that is?
HR: Yeah, we wrote a story together. We hammered out the story together. I’ve been their supervisor. Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd consult. The studio has approved the story, and they’re writing the script in their hiatus from "The Office."
Capone: They’re still writing, okay. So, we’ve been hearing all sorts of wild casting rumors about younger...
HR: No, none of that’s real. There will be young ghostbusters, but no specific casting is real, and no director is committed.
Capone: And, for the four main cast members...
HR: Everyone said they’d be in it.
Capone: Okay, it’s strictly a verbal thing at this point?
HR: Yeah, because there’s no... The studio does not want to commit to us at this point. It’s very... When everyone says ‘yes’ that will trigger a very expensive deal for the powers that be.
Capone: Right. It’s interesting that this week, the BluRay of the first film and the video game are hitting, so for a lot of younger people the first time they are exposed to this material. Is that sort of terrifying and exciting?
HR: Well, I gotta say, parents go out of their way to show their kids GHOSTBUSTERS as soon as they’re old enough to watch it, seven, eight years old. I hear this anecdotally everywhere I go: "I just showed my kid GHOSTBUSTERS." Or, the parents will say, "That’s him! That’s Egon from the movie you saw." And, the kids will look at me and go, "No." [laughs] And, I have to tell the kid, "Look, come on, kid, I gained 50 pounds. What’s the problem?" [...]

CS! sprach mit Harold Ramis.... [...] There's been a lot of talk lately about the planned Ghostbusters 3, as the original movie celebrates its 25th Anniversary and having been twenty years since the last installment. Ramis has been developing the three-quel along with his Year One writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, best known as part of the writing staff on "The Office," so we asked him for a brief update.
"I wrote the story for the new movie with them, and Dan and I've been consulting. We're just waiting to see a first draft and where we are," Ramis told us, although he's very optimistic it will happen with Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson returning as well. "Everyone says they'll do it, they've all said they'll do it. No one has signed anything yet--we haven't signed anything either--but there's the spirit of willingness in the air."
Last week, Ivan Reitman was asked by MTV about his involvement in the project, but Ramis isn't so sure Reitman would want to direct it, even though it's obviously too early to tell. "I don't think he wants to; I'm not sure I want to (direct). It's just a lot of open questions. Until we see a script, I don't think anyone really knows how they feel about it. Everyone's open to doing it, that's the main thing, that's what got it moving forward."
He did confirm that there will be a younger cast donning the backpacks and outfits with the original cast acting more as mentors to them. "Oh, yeah. There will be new Ghostbusters. It's not about us running around. We'll be introducing new people." [...]

Guardian.co.uk sprach mit Dan Aykroyd, u.a. über den 3. "Ghostbusters"-Film.... [...] And now for the supernatural bit: after coming together for the game, all the players have stated their intentions to go back, and a script is being written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, writers on the US Office. According to reports the original cast will act as mentors, handing the company over to a new generation, likely to be from the Seth Rogen and Steve Carell class of actors who are filling up just the same space in Hollywood as Aykroyd and Murray once did. "There'll be a whole new generation that has to be trained and a leader that you'll all love when you meet her," says Aykroyd. "There'll be lots of cadets, boys and girls who'll be learning how to use the neuron splitter and the inter-planet interceptor - new tools to enable them to slip from dimension to dimension." [...]

In der Rubrik Hero Complex gibt es folgende Meldung.... I just visited with Dan Aykroyd over at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip for an interview for an upcoming feature in the Los Angeles Times (you'll be able to find it here on the Hero Complex as well). We talked about a wide range of topics, but I didn't want to wait on this update about the third "Ghostbusters" film, which is moving forward after so many years.
Aykroyd said Sigourney Weaver is on board now, as are the original squad of ectoplasmic specialists -- Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. Murray's presence was the pivot point in making a third film happen. He holds a one-fifth controlling interest in the property rights and has been seen as the most reluctant to return to the paranormal comedy. Aykroyd said that is true but that it's more nuanced than the public portrayal of the situation.
"I don't put not making the third movie on Billy. We can't do that. I've been very busy. Harold's been busy, Ivan's been busy. And a third script really didn't coalesce properly. And Billy, you can't blame an artist for not wanting to do the same thing again. He did two of them, for God's sake. Although I'm the biggest cheerleader as the originator of the concept but I've never begrudged Billy not doing a third movie. I never said he held it up or that he refused. Hey, listen, he's an artist. You can't force somebody into it. I'm sorry he never read my third draft because I thought it was pretty good but, look, now we're at a point that there's a story that he can accept and that's going to work, and I think we're going to be in production fairly soon. We could be in production by winter."
The script is by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the writing team behind the upcoming Jack Black/Michael Cera movie "Year One" (directed by Ramis), and Aykroyd is enthused about its premise of a new generation of Ghostbusters taking over the duties of the aging team. Aykroyd said he wishes Ivan Reitman would return to direct the third film in the series but that he's "too busy as a mega-producer" to take it on; his second choice is Ramis, who, of course, co-wrote the first two "Ghostbusters" films with Aykroyd and has numerous directing credits, most notably "Groundhog Day" and "Analyze This." "He has a lot of things going on, but it would be wonderful to see him do it."
Aykroyd says he believes the movie will move forward but that he has also learned that "at any second everything could blow up." The details of story are still in play, but Aykroyd said he's hoping for a five-member "new generation" team with several female members. "I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."
Who does Aykroyd think would be good in the jumpsuits? Aykroyd mentioned two names, Alyssa Milano (who is a voice in the upcoming "Ghostbusters" video game) and Eliza Dushku. "I think they're amazing," he said. "And I'm excited about the whole idea of getting this done."

Bei CS! gibt es Neuigkeiten zum 3. Teil.... Dan Aykroyd participated in a chat with The Boston Globe in celebration of a new House of Blues opening and was asked by someone about the status of Ghostbusters 3. Here's the opening bit from the chat:
[Comment From Tom] Dan, I'm extremely excited for the HOB to be back in its birth-city!! I will be attending many shows. On a side note, and I'm sure you get these questions a lot, so I apologize in advance...Ghostbusters 3? I've heard that the writers of the Office are currently penning a script? How is this coming along, and should we look forward to this movie seeing the light of day? Thanks Dan!
Dan Aykroyd: Script is commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009.
It was announced last September that "The Office" co-executive producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were going to write the script for the third film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson. It was reported then that the concept is that the old Ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity.
